Operation Mincemeat: One corpse, Five actors, Ten stars.

Who knew that a dead body, a plethora of fake documents (many receipts) and an operation that sounds completely made up after too many drinks could make for such a spectacular night at the theatre.

Operation Mincemeat, the Olivier and Tony Award winning musical based on one of the strangest real-life missions of the Second World War, brought this unique mixture of comedy, chaos and clever storytelling to the Victoria Theatre in Halifax.

Based on the real operation in 1943, the musical tells the story of how British agents used a dead man carrying fake military documents to deceive Nazi Germany about the invasion of Sicily. It sounds crazy but on stage it becomes this ridiculous theatrical experience. The musical implements a bizarre take on the unbelievable events that took place, turning something absolutely miraculous into something incredibly hilarious.

The show itself is jaw-droppingly spectacular, with a musical number for any fan. From ballad singing war-wives to trance raving Nazi Germans, Operation Mincemeat is the show to watch even if you hate musicals, with something for all the family. Undeniably humorous, the show has fans in stitches with laughter at every possible moment, making the theatre a whole extra experience that you must live through.

“Little victory for fringe theatre as musical marches into West End” – The Guardian

There is nothing that can prepare you for the fantastic performance that the team deliver. Being a cast of only 5, this rowdy group is sure to blow your mind with seamless character switches, powerful narrative singing and some fabulously flattering costumes.

The show has become infamous for its so-called “Mince-fluencers”- a phenomenon of fans who have enjoyed the show so much that they return time and time again, some reaching over 50 times. Mincemeat has in its own way gained a cult following in such a short time, simply down to its genius writing, hilarious comedic moments and downright impressive performances.

“An unbelievable story told in an unbelievable way” – Holly Sumpton – (Actress for Ewen Montague and many more)

“…Witty, laugh-out-loud funny… a highly entertaining show for all ages…” – Northern Arts Review
