Nathan interview for President Role

What does being a student at the uni mean to you?

Being a student at this university means being able to take advantage of the opportunities you are given, work towards making progress for your future and being able to make the best choices for yourself and the people around you.

It’s just trying to be prepared really.

Why are you running for this role?

I’ve a fair few ideas that I’m hoping to implement as well as investing in different sectors. The way that I see the position is basically a mix of everything.

The ideas I’m hoping to implement is basically a bursary for people travelling long distances in order to get here in order to minimise the costs, which is part of the Equity.

There’s also the implementation of a few more, activities and events which I haven’t worked out the specifics of it, but I do believe that falls under the Activities sector.

Also, to introduce more online learning, rather than having everyone come in [and] do it in person. If someone’s sick or absent, I don’t want them to just exclude [students] from the lesson entirely, so I feel like that links to Education too.

There’s a mix of everything but I can’t do all roles, so I chose President instead.

What do you hope to bring to the uni?

What I’m hoping to bring to the University is, helping people get the best experience they can.

This is by making sure that they are getting what they paid for, because sure people might pay to come to uni just for the education and qualification but, if that’s all you’re going to be doing then I feel like it might not [be] fully living up to the expectations.

University isn’t just about learning; it’s also about socialising and making connections and all sorts of stuff and I want to make that the best it possibly can.

Why should people give you their vote?

I believe that people should give me their vote if they agree with all my policies.

I’m not going to say everyone should vote for me because some people wouldn’t agree with the policies, but I believe that I’d be a good candidate for the position of President.

Not only am I incredibly hardworking; trying to do what I believe is best to for everyone else’s collective, but I’ve also got a fair amount of experience in past leadership positions.

I’m also the President of the Student Advisory Council for the [School of] Computer Science and Engineering in the University and I’m also an Academic Rep working in the SU.

I like to think that I have a fair amount of experience in, you know, what’s best”

If you could sum up your campaign in three words, what would they be and why?

Cost-Effective Future.
