Recently, you may have seen that works have started up again on the Queensgate Campus, or if you’re a new student, starting up for the first time.
You might be wondering, what’s going on here or why are those nice new fence posts being taken down?
Let’s dive in…
In July 2024, the Researcher Hub, Edith Key Building and Sir George Buckley Lecture Theatre were demolished. Initial plans were for the area to potentially feature an array of facilities.
These included a performance event spaces, railway-themed sculpture gardens, growing structures, yoga “Zen” areas, and diverse seating with low-maintenance planting to be created in their (now vacant) place.

This would also include landscaping efforts, seeing the front and the back of the Barbara Hepworth being connected by a circular route, making it more accessible and creating a ‘seamless connection’ with the rest of campus.
These works represent an exciting series of upcoming developments at the University, alongside the recent addition of the Daphne Steele and Emily Siddon buildings.

With works currently ongoing, it will be interesting how this development shapes-up in the end, what do you think?
