Why should people be interested in getting involved with your society?
Our society is about welcoming culture and making people aware of what’s happening in the world.
It’s about making sure that people understand the purpose of the Palestinian culture and what the Palestinians believe in; their rights and history.
Obviously everybody knows what’s going on in the news but a lot of people have mixed views or they’re not as educated.
We promote charities, faith, culture, love and in general just want everybody to get along.
What courses does everyone study?
I study M Law, Hareem the President studies LLB Law, Sana and Yara study BioMed.
What is it about this society that made you want to join?
I’ve always learned about the history of Palestine and I wouldn’t say that I was knowledgeable more than others, but as soon as the genocide started I made sure that I took a big interest in it.
I attended all the protests, I made sure that I was posting, keeping up to date with the news and current information.
I also made sure that I was boycotting and doing my part. I try to do as much as i can in the position that I’m in.
I’m really passionate about Palestine and I wanted to get involved with a society too.
If you had to describe your society in three words what would they be and why?
Outgoing. Welcoming. Friendly.
If your society could have a celebrity mascot, who would it be and why?
Macklemore, Nicola Coughlan and Mark Ruffalo.
What’s one fun fact about each of you here today?
I’m really good at keeping a poker face, it helps me play games really well. I think I’m double jointed too.
Finally, is there anything people should know before joining?
When you come to our events you should feel safe and you don’t have to worry about debating anything political; just come and have fun.
Lots of our events raise money for charities as well, so if you like fundraising and supporting communities you can do that here.
T’HUD posts a new interview with a different society each week to keep you up to date with what’s going on in and around The University of Huddersfield campus – and maybe even get you to try out something new. For more society insights click HERE.
