Why should people be interested in getting involved with your society?
We’re trying to build a little community of people who enjoy having fun and doing random things together like yapping.
What courses does everyone study?
We’re very artsy.
People in our society tend to be either English and Creative Writing or Media courses, but we’re open to anyone joining.
What is it about this society that made you want to join?
Although there was a podcast society, there was no general talking society until Yap came along.
I thought it was really important to have a space where students can talk about whatever they want to and have a space where they can increase their confidence.
It’s also a great opportunity for anyone wanting to develop their skills in public speaking situations and all these characteristics can help you grow as a person.
This society isn’t too professional, it’s a calm environment where students find it easier to talk and open up about anything they like.
If you had to describe your society in three words what would they be and why?
Fun. Community. Togetherness.
If your society could have a celebrity mascot, who would it be and why?
GK Barry, she’s a yapper like me. Also Ava Coleman from Abbott Elementary, she’s fun and bubbly.
What’s one fun fact about each of you here today?
I’m double jointed in my wrist and my thumb.
Finally, is there anything people should know before joining?
It’s a free society and there’s nothing else like it on campus. If you ever after a group of people you can chill with in between all your classes and uni work, this is your go to.
T’HUD posts a new interview with a different society each week to keep you up to date with what’s going on in and around The University of Huddersfield campus – and maybe even get you to try out something new. For more society insights click HERE.
