Hello and welcome to my football diary all about Huddersfield Town. Unfortunately I’ve had the greatest displeasure of being forced to watch this abhorrent excuse for a football team for the past 20 years, ever living in false hope that we will win come game day.

These are my live thoughts and reactions of every game I’ve watched in the past two weeks as they were happening.

Saturday 20 September

Entry one, 8.48am:

I woke up excited and optimistic ahead of Burton Town at home. Can’t wait to get to the stadium and cheer on my team.

The weather is looking a bit ominous and no pub beforehand on account of me driving to the game could spell trouble if the game heads south.

Entry two, 2.24pm:

Arrived in rainy Huddersfield and headed straight for the ground ahead of a big game against bottom of the table.

I got absolutely soaked on the walk over due to a bold and poorly judged closet choice of a jacket with no hood and shorts.

Entry three, 6.56pm:

Never been so bored in all my life, the game ends 0-0. Any promotion hopes I had at the start of the season are dwindling and my happiness is rapidly fading alongside it.

Cleared off the line four times and Burton hung on by parking the bus until full time.

Unfortunate result which could’ve been three or four on another day.

Wednesday 24 September

Entry one, 10.21am:

Wednesday night kick off and no designated driver, life is relentless. Hopefully we don’t embarrass ourselves tonight too badly against a Manchester City side that has a strong case of being the best team in England…

Entry two, 11.41am:

Designated driver has been found, maybe not all is lost. On the way to Huddersfield in high spirits ironically planning to consume a high amount of spirits too.

Entry three, 6.56pm:

Enjoyed a mini pub crawl through Huddersfield’s Town Centre in The Lord Wilson, Cherry Tree, Vulcan, Yorkshire Rose and The Boy and Barrel.

Now a solemn walk to the Accu with expectations at a realistic low.

Entry four, 7.45pm:

Kickoff is here and a sold out crowd of 24,000 roar.

Entry five, 11.54pm:

A loss but a brave attempt as we fall 2-0 to an excellent Man City side. This has not been a good month to watch Huddersfield football. I hope it improves soon.

Saturday 4 October

Entry one 9.03am:

Woke up, realised I have to watch Huddersfield Town play today, had a breakdown.

My melancholy is indescribable and my day is ruined. Hopefully we can recover some form today but as is the case with supporting Huddersfield I’m not confident.

Entry two, 12.34pm:

I arrived at The Cherry Tree and treated myself to alcohol in a bid to numb the incoming suffering.

Feeling existential and nihilistic. I have a very bad feeling about this one.

Entry three, 3.00pm:

Kickoff is here and we are clocked in as usual.

Entry four, 5.34pm:

Humiliation. Huddersfield Town lose 2-1 to a Stockport County side that always looked comfortable.

Depressing and hard to watch, but I wouldn’t change it for the world.

Up The Town.
