Huddersfield University 2nds hang onto a triumph in win over Bradford in the football 2-0

By Liam Grainge

Varsity continued today, following on from last night’s action with the University of Huddersfield firing full fronts at the football. The amount of possession they had throughout the morning showed a strong performance throughout the morning.

The first chance would fall to Bradford number 9, whose scuffed shot would be picked up by Huddersfield’s keeper after 10 minutes. But it wouldn’t take long for Huddersfield to take the lead after a well-placed freekick dropped into Bradford’s box to the feet of Miit Doshi to score the first goal just 20 minutes into the game.

There was a moment of despair for the Bradford goalkeeper as a freekick attempt made by Huddersfield landed into the arms of the keeper, who spilt the ball, ending in Lewis Mcneely being able to tap it home and putting the game to bed at 2-0.

A strong performance by Huddersfield number 11 Doshi, whose first-half goal set up the team to victory, awarded him the man of the match after an impressive game with not only a goal but also being able to keep momentum down the left-hand side.

Goalkeeper Jack Dooler had to pull out the stocks and make some great saves in the final minutes to help keep the clean sheet after shots kept falling to Bradford after a scramble in the box, which couldn’t turn into any signs of a proper chance after a shot off the line by Craige Whitley after

Huddersfield Football Club President and player Luke Widdowson was happy with how the lads played this morning, saying, “It was another great performance from the lads rounding off a good year.” He spoke about how the pressure of the match may have taken a toll on the players and said, “It took a while for us to grow into the game, but once we woke up, we looked comfortable.”

With the first team still to play later today, they will be hopeful of making it a clean sweep of football wins and helping boost their chances of winning the Varsity trophy.
