The women’s badminton varsity side feels very confident about their games against Bradford’s rivals!
The varsity events start on Wednesday, and the women’s badminton side is looking to get back-to-back victories after beating Bradford 1’s women 5-3 in a dominant display. Women’s Badminton Doubles 2 player Nia gave me her thoughts on attending the upcoming varsity fixtures. When asked about the confidence levels going into the Varsity games, she stated, “We are feeling confident as we have been very focused on improving our skills and strength.” Last year, they displayed excellent technique and skills to get the victory, and they are looking to have the same confidence again this year to give the University of Huddersfield a massive win.
Throughout the year, the Women’s Badminton side has had inconsistent results, with plenty of wins and losses. When asked how all the Women’s Badminton players feel going into the event after the entire season, Nia stated, “I think we’re feeling okay. We’ve not had the best season, but I think our spirits are high, and we feel confident.” The women in badminton have high spirits and work well together to motivate each other. They work well as a side and get good results moving forward after previous bad results. The same can be said about the Women’s Badminton side with injury concerns. It looks very positive this year when the Doubles 2 player explains, “We’ve luckily got everyone.” This provides a huge confidence boost when going into the varsity event!
The University of Huddersfield hosts this year’s varsity event, which gives the Women’s Badminton team the home-court advantage. It also has local fans on its side this year. When asked about how the home advantage would benefit them, Nia expressed, “I think we are comfortable with the home Sports Hall; obviously, we train there, and we know how the lights and the net heights can affect us, so it’s nice that we are comfortable.” This dramatically boosts the Women’s players going into the Varsity events, as Rivals Bradford will need to adapt to play against our local side!
Last year, the Women’s Badminton side won over Bradford 1’s 5-3, and they are looking to make the same impact and get the result to push Huddersfield Universities Varsities sides over the line to get the win 4 years in a row. Nia stated when asking about last year’s results and predictions for this year, “It’s not the same pressure to win every game,” and “I reckon we will win 5-3 like we did last year.” The Women’s Badminton team feels confident about entering this fixture and feels they will get a great result! Come along to the Varsity events to see the Women’s Badminton side fight for victory!
