Art Society: Interview with Mason (President), Libby (Vice President) and Micah (Committee Member)

Why should people be interested in getting involved with your society?

M1: I met so many people from the society that I now hang out with from different courses. It’s really great way to get out there in a social kind of way.?
L: It’s a good opportunity for people who aren’t involved in arts and humanity so it lets people who maybe are on engineering or any of the social sciences or any over course of the year show off their creative side and engage in art as a hobby.
M2: I think we’ve always ran with the fact that this society is for everyone, regardless of skill level and new members shouldn’t feel intimidated by their art skill set because we just have fun, we’re very chill.

What courses does everyone study?

M1: We’ve had a couple of fashion students. I know we’ve had some people on engineering, computing and game design.

Everyone on the committee studies art-focused degrees just different pathways. (NAME) and Sarah are on illustration, (NAME) on condemporary art. I’m contemporary and illustration.

What is it about this society that made you want to join?

M1: I joined committee in second year, went to an event and met society members who were really welcoming and took me under their wing, and.

They inspired me to want to get involved.

L:For me, I noticed that there wasn’t much going on in the society, the year before this and I wanted to make the group exciting for people again.

M2: I spoke with previous members and loved the idea of getting involved with a society and make good ideas that interest people.

If you could describe your society in three words, what would they be and why?

M1: Diverse, creative, and fun.

L: Brilliant, fun and messy.

M2: Experimental, whimsical, laid back and I was also going to say authentic. Sorry that’s four!

If your society had a celebrity mascot, who would it be and why?
M1: Matt Berry.
L: Markiplier.

M2: Nicholas Cage or Danny Devito.

What’s one fun fact about yourself?
L: I’m A burlesque dancer. It’s a hobby not professional.I just do it for fun, I take classes back home.

M1:I am a huge horror nerd, I love horror movies.
I’m really into the making of horror movies.

M2: I’m a massive tabletop nerd.
I like D&D and art. I’m also a horror nerd.
Is there anything people should know before joining?
M: You do not need to have any sort of background in art at all to join and have fun. We do not hold bias against people who are literally picking up a pencil for the first time. We might all take art courses but we all had our starting points. The important thing is having the drive to want to be creative, it doesn’t matter if you can’t draw, can’t paint, can’t proactively have those skills.
