The University of Huddersfield Netball team, are taking on University of Bradford in Varsity on Wednesday, hoping to secure another win for a second year in a row.

I did a pre match interview with Hannah Hewison, the vice president and GA on the netball 2nds team and Abi Lees the wellbeing officer and WD/GD on the netball 1st team. The interview gave a very promising outcome, that Huddersfield will bring back another win this year on their home court. This is a last game for many seniors, so the pressure is on!
In Varsity last year, Netball performed extremely well winning with an impressive score of 57-38 for the 1st team. They are looking for an impressive winning streak with merging both first and second teams this year, last year Netball played both 1st and 2nd team in two Varsity matches. This season in BUCS Netball has had a successful season with 12 wins and 16 losses between both teams. Although there were more losses, the performance of the court was done to high abilities, and they had strong games where they only lost by a couple points. Abi said, “I am feeling really confident for varsity, we’ve got a really solid team”.
The team has been preparing for varsity with intense training and fitness sessions as well as the weekly BUCS games and friendlies. So be prepared to be shown a amazing performance out on the court.
This year the team have had a lot of freshers for both the team and the social aspect. The team have made a strong effort to integrate these new members onto the squad Hannah says, “the players have absolutely jelled fine and have bonded straight away”. This is very evident on the court as the teamwork shown is incredible.
The University of Bradford netball team have had a difficult season struggling to secure many wins. They lost their last home BUCS match with an unfortunate loss to Sheffield Hallam 5’s. The University of Bradford netball team lost against Huddersfield last year in a 38-57 defeat. Huddersfield is confident to bring home the win for another year in a row Abi says, “we’re ready for it and fairly confident”.
The Netball Match will commence at 17:30 at the University of Huddersfield Sports Hall, finishing at 19:00. University of Huddersfield are looking to complete the three-peat this year against Bradford. Good Luck!
