All eyes are on Wednesday Morning as the football kicks off the big day of Varsity Fixtures. The University of Huddersfield men’s First and Second teams look to go into the day on high hopes at Storthes Hall against Bradford University’s sides, Huddersfield look to retain their win from last year’s competition and hope to make it a three-peat of victories against Bradford in the competition.
To prepare for this event, extra sessions have been put on to make sure that the players are fit and ready for the competition. Vice president and player Byron white says that the mood in the camp has been brilliant. “
Speaking ahead of the competition; Club President Luke Widdowson says that being first in such a big occasion isn’t that nerve wracking. He states that: “there will be a little bit of pressure but by getting the win will boost the confidence of everyone else for the day ahead”.
Luke and Byron picked out some names that are some standout players for each of the Huddersfield sides that have been shining throughout the season so far. Byron picked out Tega Uwangho calling him “an electric false nine, definitely a key for absolutely everything for the team”. With him being a tricky player to come up against he does get a few injuries due to the only way of stopping him is to bring him down. But even bringing the fouls, he will always get back up and provide the goals and assists, playing magical football.
For the second team, Luke picked out star striker Will Holdsworth who this season has contributed an astonishing 12 goals (four coming in the league against tomorrow’s opponents). Luke calls him a “Goal scoring machine” and can hope to call on him to help bring victory to the hosts.
The fixture will take place at Storthes Hall with the second team kicking off at 10:30 and the first team kicking off at 13:00 with tickets still available for the final events hosted in the sports hall where you can see if Huddersfield have done enough to keep hold of the Varsity trophy.
